Tape In Hair Extensions - Self Application Tutorial.

In my last hair post I was going from dark to light, in this one I'm going from short to long. The bleach really ruined my hair so I decided to just chop it all off and ended up looking like a 12 year old! I've always loved hair extensions, even with my longer hair, so while I was searching the internet for a way to get my locks back I found tape in hair extensions. I've tried the micro-loop ones before and found them to slip quite easy, so I thought I give these a go.

Tape in extension come in 1.5 inch sections and attach to the hair with double sided sticky tape designed for hair. You can have them done professionally for around £300 but I always like to try things out for myself first. I bought  2 sets from eBay for £27.99 each - bargain!!!

There are professional tutorials on YouTube, I followed BabeHairExtensions video when doing my original application, but here is how I did my re-application. Please note that I am quite clearly not a professional, this is just how I found it easier to do.

STEP 1:  Firstly equipment wise you will need - Hair extension (obvs), a comb, scissors, a hair clip and hair extension tape (included with extensions).

STEP 2: Part a small section of your hair at the bottom. The parting is where the extension will be applied to ensure that there is enough hair underneath to cover the extension if you were to wear your hair up.

STEP 3: Take the extension and apply the tape (some may already have the tape attached) and peel the back off as in the pictures above.

STEP 4: Take a section of hair that is the same width and thickness as the extension and place the extension underneath.

STEP 5: Take another extension and apply the tape as before. Then place this extension directly on top of the one you just applied, so that your hair is between the two extensions. 

STEP 6: Repeat the process leaving around 1cm between each extension. 

STEP 7: Take down another section of hair thick enough to cover the previously applied extensions. 

STEP 8: Continue application until you have the desired look.

Tah-dah! I have long hair again! I think that it looks quite natural as well. Like I said above, this was a re-application. I originally applied them around Christmas time and found them to slip quite a lot, I was finding myself re-applying one every couple of days. I've worked out how to make them last longer by keeping conditioner away form the roots completely and not brushing hair while wet. It's also better to leave your hair dry naturally. You can also purchase more tape from the eBay store here.

Each packet contains 20 individual pieces however each piece gets placed on top of another therefore you only have 10 extensions which is why I purchased two packs.
